THE SITUATION

A tyre gone on the island seafront

The car had a sidewall gone on the seafront, which on Portsea Island means the parking conversation happens before the tyre conversation. The vehicle was in a space wide enough for the car and not much else, so we agreed a spot further along before setting off rather than arriving to a kerb we could not work from. The sidewall damage was not repairable and we said so immediately rather than attempting it, because a sidewall that has gone once will go again and the driver deserved to know that before paying. We fitted a replacement, balanced the wheel, and checked the rim for the kind of damage a sidewall failure leaves behind. The rest of the set was older than ideal, which we mentioned. It is a small thing to raise, and it is much easier to raise when we are already at the vehicle than three months later.
